Ask me questions :)

Last week I had the privilege of being with one woman for the whole day. I was able to pray with her, care for her and be with her from the beginning of her labour until the end of labour and it was so calm and beautiful. She was so happy sitting on the bed with her newborn little girl.. just exclaiming "I can't believe it, I can't believe it." She was so happy to be a mom, so happy to have a healthy baby girl in her arms after 9 months of carrying and hours of labouring. At last, the life God created in her womb was living and breathing in her arms! :)

I have been learning so much, and there's always so much I want to share with you,
but sometimes it's just hard to know what to say.

I want to ask you, the readers for your help with something...

ask me questions. questions about anything...
questions about the hospital. about the culture. about daily life. about church in africa. about little villages. about what it's like living with 27 other people in community who have come from 8 different nations. about the joys. about the struggles. about the injustice. about the hope.

I look forward to your questions.
I have been enjoying the sunsets :)

Love to you all,
Orissa

  1. Orissa, I love reading your blog posts. I wondered about the birthing center or is it a hospital? Can the ladies have their husbands with them in labor? Are most of the ladies married? Can you give the ladies any medication during labor? Is their a doctor always available or are you on your on sometimes? Can you freely share the gospel with the ladies? Do you just stay with one lady through labor or do you move around to other ladies ? Do you work a certain shift?

What is your living area like? Do you have indoor plumbing?
That is probably enough questions from me. Praying the Lord will use you in a mighty way there. It will be good to see you in April!!

  2. O,
Our family has so enjoyed living your experience through your posts...
    We all say hi!
With childbirth and mamas so close to my heart and as a passion of mine to make a difference...hearing what you are experiencing is dear.
Please answere Pam's questions...I think that they are questions we have all had.
    And,
Can we send you care packages? If so, where too?
    WE love you O!
God Bless you and your hands and heart as you 'labour' for the Lord!
Also, do I have permission to reprint your testimonies? I would love to share them on my blog...

  3. Ori, I'm thinking of you as the snow is falling down outside. I miss you.
I was wondering, can I send you letters? I know your Mom told me that packages probably wouldn't make it to you because of the government or something...
What's it like in a totally different culture? Do you feel out of place or do you enjoy learning and experiencing it all? I love you! Keep being that beautiful light and joy to the world for Jesus! Love, Liz

  4. I am so very proud of you Orissa, and I know that you are in God's will and protected by Him. I know that you are very busy serving Him and these lovely African women. I can't wait to hear the stories you will have to share when you come home. I know that you will always have a desire to serve and wander far, far from home...and we will always be here silently praying for you. I hope that, even though you find it hard to share and communicate here on the blog, you are writing in your journal and also still writing poetry.

Believe it or not I'm even a little envious that you know how to wash your clothes by hand!

I do have a request of you since you asked. AS you fellowship these women, could you ask them to share their thoughts and prayers with us, who are your family and friends? I want to know what they think and feel about their lives and families. What are their greatest struggles day to day, year to year, and also what is the greatest joy they experience day to day, and year to year. What is the hope of their people for their government and country as they bring children into the world. What do they fear? What do they hope for. Please share some of their responses here with us.

I hope you have a Merry Christmas. You have the joy of knowing what gifts are really about as you give with all of your heart, mind and strength.

Merry Christmas Oreo!! Love, Aunt Michelle

  6. to liz and ash,
about the letters and care packages question..

yes, absolutely you can send those things!
i'd love to get a handwritten note anytime :)

the important thing to figure out is timing. depending on when you want to send things i will have a different address. it will be changing often. but it is possible to get things to me.

it's best at this point not to mail anything to africa because i am leaving in two weeks.

however if you wanted to write something soon you could mail it to perth, australia.

i will be arriving back in perth on the 18 of Jan. and i'll be there for two weeks. and then i will be in india for two months. i don't have either of those addresses with me at the moment, but i will post them soon for you and you can just figure out the best place to send things. thanks for thinking of me :)
